Best practice in typography
I looked at the best practice in typography according to Tom Koszyk, the writer on this page that our teacher gave us to summarize the points. https://medium.com/product-design-ux-ui/26-digital-typography-rules-for-beginners-a04c6a5aaff3
- Avoid using typeface that's fancy
- Try using a typeface like Trajan Pro for head titles rather than the body of a text.
- Avoid the typeface, Throw Comic Sans at all costs
- Default typefaces like Times New Roman are great and better than using a typeface that is unreadable.
- Use no more than two fonts as it will give you the best outcome.
- If you're going to mix typefaces, use ones that are different from each other rather than similar to each other.
- Try to make the text as readable as possible by making the x-height similar to the other typeface when mixing.
- When writing on a web page, 13 px. and 14-18 px. is the preferable size of the text and easiest to read.
- Size 9 - 12 pt. is best for print text.
- The best line length for paragraphs is 45 - 75 characters and 66 characters in a line is most preferable.
- Use the right leading, by setting a line-height at 125% of the size of the text.
- Use ragged right/flush left for paragraphs for almost all of your writing.
- Use Hyphenation as little as possible.
